04-24: The Pantheon

 The Pantheon:

The Pantheon is a second century roman temple. In 609 CE it became a Catholic church. The Pantheon was built on the site of an earlier temple, commissioned by Augustus. 2000 years after it was built, the Pantheon is still the largest unreinforced concrete dome, with a central opening to the sky. The height and diameter are exactly the same – 142 feet (43 meters). It is one of the best preserved of all ancient Roman ruins. And in my mind, one of the most impressive and beautiful buildings I have ever seen.
