04-16: A castle and 2 churches

Walking along the coastline at sunrise

Castle Nuovo

It was first erected in 1279. It was the royal seat for the kings of Naples, Aragon, and Spain until 1815.

Galleria Umberto I (just a shopping mall, but one of the most impressive building ever!)

It was built between 1887 and 1890.

Sant Orsola a Chiaia

Rebuilt in 1576

As I was reading the descriptions of the small side chapels in the church, I found one that has been the property of the same family since 1300!

Duomo di Napoli (Naples Cathedral)

It is the seat of the Archbishop of Naples. It was commissioned by King Charles I of Anjou and constructed by Charles II, completed in the 14th Century.

Piazza del Plebiscito

Constructed in the beginning of the 19th century, the plaza is 270,000 square feet.

Walking through the little alleyway-like streets (and a few of the many laundry shots)

Grazing in Naples (my favorite kind of eating)

Breakfast: this is a traditional Napoli breakfast. It is sort of like the Greek spanakopita, filled with greens, but the bread is a soft flatbread. Very delicious.

Dinner: I guess the eating theme this day was spanakopita, because this was also like spanakopita, stuffed with greens and a feta-like cheese, but the shell was just like the Italian dessert, sfogliatelle, but fried. Also, very delicious.
