In the morning I went on my favorite bike ride - the little dirt road on the other side of the bridge along the Mekong River. It is interesting how relative everything is, depending on one's experience. When I went on this bike ride 2 weeks ago, it seemed like I was riding through remote and pretty basic villages in the jungle. After my experience in Nong Khiow and Muang Ngoi, this ride feels like what it is - the outskirts of Luang Prabang (though I still liked it).

After I took the photo of the laundry and boat, I stepped out from under the structure and saw this monk meditating in the window. I love this image. |

Sheila, Bill and Rachel at our favorite pizza place (again) |
Bill is an old friend from Seattle, who moved away 11 years ago, and I hadn't seen or kept in touch with him all this time. He has been living in Spain for the past 9 years, and we met up here in Luang Prabang. Rachel is another American, staying at the same guest house as I am. We met this morning, and she joined us for pizza. We ended up staying at the pizza place for about three hours, because it started to rain, and then to really pour. Rain this hard had only lasted a few minutes, but this time it went on and on. Finally, due to hotel curfews, we had to head out in the pouring rain and ride our bikes back into Luang Prabang (the pizza place is across the old bridge on the other side of the river, about a 15 minute bike ride). It actually felt pretty nice riding in the downpour - once you are soaking wet, you can't get any wetter.
