July 2nd evening of hip hop

sunset on the Mekong
Sheila and I, just by chance, chose a restaurant on the Mekong our first day here in Luang Prabang. We liked it, and liked the waiter, so ended up never changing. Now it is our meeting place - for beer, or iced coffee, or Vietnamese fresh rolls. Last night we met Gertrud and Regina there, then headed to The Hive, a bar on the Mekong, to watch Lao hip hop. Wath, one of the servers at Sheila's guest house, works a 2nd job in the evening at The Hive. Tuesday through Saturday young Lao boys dance hip hop on stage, so we thought it would be fun to watch the show last night. And it was - the dancers were very talented and a lot of fun.

Our Spanish friend Marga met us there. We were also joined by Thip, another server at Sheila's guest house, and her boy friend Noy. Thip is 24 tears old. She is istudying Asian Literature at University. Her boyfriend Noy studied business at university.

Wath holds down two jobs in the summer. He is also a university student, studying English. He is the youngest of his family, and the only boy, so he has a responsibility to take care of his mother and his sisters, and his nieces and nephews - a heavy responsibility.
